– Practice With Me: Stella By Starlight (PDF and Backing Tracks) –
In this Practice Withe Me Session, Adam lays out 4 exercises to help you learn what to improvise over the chord changes to Stella By Starlight. Maybe you want to get started improvising jazz but just don’t know where to start. Chord tones, chord tones, chord tones! You have to know your chord tones (the notes that make up any given chord). Even if you do improvise already, these are still great exercises.
You get the 15 page PDF lesson as well as eight (8) Backing Tracks in a ZIP folder. There is a slow and a slightly faster backing track for each exercise for you to practice on your own.
The first 2 exercises cover this. The 3rd gets you playing “into” the chord tones so everything sounds more like a line rather than an exercise. Lastly, you will be voice leading drop 2 chords through the entire song. You’ll learn new chord voicings while voice leading. You will have new insights on Stella. You’ll also start getting to know the song inside and out and be more confident with the tune!
