Have You Met Miss Jones? is a question the the great composer Richard Rogers posed when penned the song of the same name. It was written for the 1937 musical comedy I’d Rather Be Right. It is a great standard that has become a torch song within the great American Songbook.
The song’s bridge, features key change movements in major thirds and may have served as an inspiration to John Coltrane for songs such as Giant Steps.
At my recent gig, we performed Have You Met Miss Jones. Thank goodness I taped the show. By the way, I have now dubbed this new video series as “Jazz in the Dark” and I’ll post a couple of songs from that performance each week.
Since I’ll be traveling to Canada, over the next couple of weeks I’ll be releasing videos of songs we performed that day because I won’t be able to make any of my usual videos during that time.
Take care and I’ll be making instructional videos and an interview now and then when I get back. Hmmm… Now let me think…Maybe I’ll even get some video footage of where I grew up while I’m in Canada.
Talk soon,
Adam
